What you need before you buy

These CALs do not include a Windows Server license. You need an installed and activated Windows Server with the Remote Desktop Services role.

Microsoft licensing also requires a Windows Server CAL for each user or device, in addition to the Remote Desktop Services CAL sold here.

RDS CALs are version specific. Windows Server 2016 RDS CALs cover Windows Server 2016 and earlier versions. A newer server, for example Windows Server 2022, requires CALs of that version.
