MS Windows Server 2022 Standard 2 Core License

An add-on license for extra processor cores

Windows Server 2022 Standard is licensed by physical processor core, with a minimum of 16 cores per server. This product adds 2 more cores to a server that already has that base license.

It is not a standalone server license and cannot be used on its own - it extends an existing Windows Server 2022 Standard installation.

When you need it

You need additional core licenses when your server has more physical cores than the 16 already covered. Typical combinations look like this:

• 18 cores: 16 Core License + one 2 Core License
• 20 cores: 16 Core License + two 2 Core Licenses
• 24 cores: 16 Core License + four 2 Core Licenses
• 32 cores: two 16 Core Licenses

Getting the count right

Licensing is based on physical cores, not threads, and every core in the server must be licensed - even if the operating system is not using all of them.

What this does not include

This license covers cores only. Client Access Licenses for the users or devices connecting to the server are purchased separately, as are RDS CALs for Remote Desktop Services.

The base Windows Server 2022 Standard 16 Core license is also required and is sold as a separate product.
